It’s now official: The single-player campaign of Crysis, Crytek’s highly-regarded 2007 FPS, is coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It will be a downloadable title, re-mastered with new lighting effects, controls, and stereoscopic 3D support. Since the time of the game’s initial release, the PC-only CryEngine 2 has been succeeded by CryEngine 3, which indeed runs on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game is expected to land sometime during March 2012. Two separately released potential covers for the game depict Max Payne both with and without hair, in a manner oddly reminiscent of Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher.

Cloud computing the future of gaming?
According to GamesIndustry.biz, THQ CEO Brian Farrell asserts that the future of the gaming industry won’t allow for physical media, and that eventually all interaction with games will be moved into the realm of cloud computing. “The box, ship, and done model is transitioning to observe, measure, and modify,” said Farrell. Keeping the eyes of gamers where they probably should be, Farrell added that “Cloud computing and data storage could potentially do a lot, but it’s what we do with it as game designers and publishers that really matters most.”

The game allows for not only military conquest, but economic warfare and political intrigue, with both a single player campaign and an eight-person multiplayer mode attached.

New 3DS gear on the horizon?
Online leaks of the upcoming issue of Famitsu show that Nintendo is developing a peripheral for the 3DS with a second analog pad. The device appears as though it will attach to the rear of the console, much like the system’s charge cradle, with the analog stick on the right side. Because this would likely block the 3DS’s existing right trigger, the new attachment comes with its own. No release date has been set for the new gear.
Nintendo Sales Numbers
Nintendo’s price cut of the 3DS, dire move though it may be, seems to be reaping the intended results. As part of NPD’s US retail sales report, Nintendo announced that August saw a 260 percent surge in console purchases. Though the Xbox 360 remains the best-selling console, Nintendo has definitely bounced back, as it also sold 190,000 Wiis and 165,000 DS/DSi products in the month of August.
