New Mortal Kombat Film in the Works
According to the Los Angeles Times, Warner Bros. New Line Cinemas is beginning production on a new Mortal Kombat film, to be directed by long-striving filmmaker Kevin Tancharoen. Tancharoen, whose Mortal Kombat: Rebirth viral video brought him the attention of fans and studios the world over, has since directed the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, which followed Rebirth’s precedent as a grittier, more reality-based take on the franchise’s story and characters. Oren Uziel will be writing the film that’s release is expected to coincide with the release of a new Mortal Kombat game.
I Am Alive for Christmas?
I Am Alive, the post-apocalyptic survival game first announced at the 2008 E3 show, has finally been brought back from its long hiatus for a Winter release this year. Soon to be available on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, Ubisoft Shanghai’s action title will find an everyman who’s lost his family returning to his battle-ravaged hometown. The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

Arkham City 360 Bundle
Gamerant, the German wing of Amazon.com, has recently posted a listing for a Batman: Arkham City Xbox 360 bundle. The long-awaited sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum comes out October 18th, with the bundle featuring a 250 GB Xbox 360 and a controller as well as a copy of the game. The bundle itself goes on sale October 21st in Europe.
Syndicate Announced
According to gaming news outlet Gamasutra, Electronic Arts’ Syndicate reboot will be hitting stores in North America on February 21st, and Europe three days later. A PC version of the game is expected to arrive along with its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 counterparts. Syndicate depicts futuristic environment where warring “syndicates” tear the United States apart through civil war, enacted by mechanically-augmented humans. Now a first-person shooter instead of a top-down strategy game, Syndicate is throwing the original formula completely out the door and developing a fresh take on the property.

L.A. Noire – PC News
L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition is slated for release on the PC on November 8th in North America. This version of the critically-acclaimed police procedural arrives with a code to download all previously released downloadable content from the assorted console versions. Most importantly, the game comes packaged with Nvidia 3D Vision, a technological boost unique to this version.
Voice Cast for Skyrim Announced
Bethesda’s epic fantasy title The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been assigned an A-list voice-acting cast. Academy Award nominees Christopher Plummer, Max Von Sydow and Joan Allen are headlining the project, playing Greybeard elder Arngeir, chronicler Esbern, and Blades member Delphine, respectively. Skyrim is due for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 11th.

Square Enix Embarrassed?
In response to the overwhelmingly negative response to Final Fantasy XIV Online, a recently translated Sponichi report reveals Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada to be extremely regretful as to his last installment’s sub-par performance. According to Wada, “The Final Fantasy brand has been greatly damaged,” and that his company is hard at work on Final Fantasy XIV, “which basically amounts to fully redoing the game.”
Metal Gear Solid Limited Edition
Konami has announced that in addition to the bare bones Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, a Limited Edition package will ship alongside it on November 8th for die-hard fans. The Limited Edition includes not only Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, but specialized packaging illustrated by the franchise’s lead artist Yoji Shinkawa, as well as a 248-page book: “The Art of Metal Gear Solid.”
