Rainbow 6 Patriots Announced

Ubisoft has confirmed the return of Rainbow 6, the tactical shooter series that fizzled out on consoles three years ago with Rainbow 6: Vegas 2. In a cooperative effort between Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, the new game – Rainbow 6 Patriots – involves the titular fighting unit’s attempts to put down a group of American insurgents called the True Patriots. The selling point of this newest installment is its “Unprecedented level of humanity,” which itself involves “Tough ethical decisions,” the bread and butter of our terrorism-laced times. Cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes for Patriots will be included.

Metal Gear Solid: Rising News

According to Spike TV executive producer Geoff Keighley, Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which has been missing in action since its 2009 E3 unveiling, will make a big splash at this year’s Spike TV Video Game Awards. According to his Twitter feed, “the truth about Metal Gear Solid: Rising will finally be revealed at 2011 VGA’s” by none other than Hideo Kojima, the Metal Gear Solid mastermind.

GTA V Details

Grand Theft Auto V, which premiered its trailer earlier this week to great fanfare, has been confirmed by developer Rockstar as taking place in San Andreas – the Southern California surrogate featured years ago in the PlayStation 2 GTA of the same name. The game is in “full development,” and will return to the central city of Los Santos to focus “on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined present day Southern California.”

Dead Island Sequel in the Works?

Techland, the developer of Dead Island, has filed a trademark for its potential sequel. Called Dead World, the game should see a considerable expansion of the initial game’s terrain, if the title is to be taken at face value. Though no official plans have been revealed for a game sequel, a film adaptation is currently in the works for the zombie horror game.

Silent Hill Onslaught

Konami has confirmed plans to roll out a Silent Hill title for each of the first three months of 2012. The first will be The Silent Hill HD Collection, which drops January 24th and includes new versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3. The second, set for release on February 22nd, is the PlayStation Vita title Silent Hill Book of Memories, which introduces multiplayer to the franchise. Rounding out the trio is Silent Hill Downpour, which hits the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in March, and continues the franchise along its linear course (the game tracks events immediately following 2008’s Silent Hill: Homecoming).

Mass Effect 3 Storyline Details Emerge

According to developer BioWare, the newest iteration of their Mass Effect franchise will be entirely self-contained, in an effort to entice gamers that may be new to the franchise. GM Aaryn Flynn, who has been burning the midnight oil into Mass Effect 3 for its March 6, 2012 release, said plainly to Eurogamer: “Certainly it’s a very polished experience. In the story it starts at a time with a very singular focus and purpose in the galaxy. You could say the previous games were just a preamble to this moment. Everything has been building to this. It’s like the Superbowl. Who cares what happened in the regular season? Now’s the one that matters.”

Revelations Pricing

Capcom has set the price of their upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations at $50 – ten dollars more than the typical 3DS asking price of $39.99 per game. Among other reasons, this is because the game is shipping on a 4GB card, as opposed to the system’s typical 2GB media. Capcom explained the pricing logic to Kotaku recently: “A true console experience on a handheld device, Resident Evil Revelations is an epic title that offers both a single-player campaign for that classic survival horror gaming experience, and an additional RAID mode that can be played cooperatively or single player.” Resident Evil: Revelations hits the US market on February 7th, 2012.
