Time to talk about a game that has been through hell and back. Anything from constant delays in the development stages all to way to even the original publisher dying before the game was released (THQ), Metro Last Light has had a rough go of things. There has been much approved over the acclaimed Metro 2033 here and it shows in the finished product. There are some minor flaws in this new game, but fans of Metro 2033 will have plenty to keep them coming back for more.
STORY:
In the original game Metro 2033, you played as Artyom, who’s mission was to rid the world of the “Dark Ones” which saw you rain down missiles at the end to destroy them. However in Metro Last Light, you find out that one of the “Dark Ones” has survived the missile attack and is planning a resurgence. As Artyom, you are sent in to once and for all rid the world of the last remaining “Dark Ones”. This game takes a heavy turn away from the survival aspects and puts it mostly on politics between the three main factions. Those would be The Rangers, The Red Line, and of course the Nazi Reich.
GRAPHICS:
The original Metro 2033 was known as a graphics powerhouse on PC that brought even the mightiest gaming rigs back in its day to its knees. Metro Last Light does not disappoint in the graphics department. Backgrounds and textures look very detailed and crisp. Player and AI models look great and very detailed. Environments for the most part seem full of life and eventful.
GAMEPLAY:
The gun play and overall mechanics have been greatly overhauled from the previous game. Combat is nowhere near as clunky as the original game. Stealth mode has been added in to aid you on your missions. While it still leaves a little to be desired, it is useful in situations where you wanna take out one enemy at a time or are low on ammo and health. The sound score on this game is great and sets the atmosphere for a fun and exciting game. My only gripe with this game honestly would have to be the fact they cut out “Ranger Mode” and used it as DLC for people who did not pre-order the game. This is the definite way to play Metro Last Light.
OVERALL:
For fans of the original game Metro 2033, there is much improvement here that will satisfy even the most grizzled of veterans. This game is also great for anyone who wants a FPS with a great story and great combat action.
OVERALL SCORE: 8 out of 10
