Lee Yun-Jun vs George Roop cut short by devastating injury!
Xiaomi ROAD FC 031 was held on the 14 of May, 2016 in front of a sold out crowd at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea. Only one fight made it to the scorecards, with the others being a mix of finishes that yielded an unexpected upset and a saddening injury.
In the Main Event, Bantamweight Champion Lee Yun-Jun and recent UFC veteran George Roop brought their bad intentions into the cage. The anticipated performance of Roop’s debut against Bantamweight Champ Lee was cut short by a freak accident: when Roop threw out a front kick, his shin met Lee’s elbow and apparently gave way, obvious when he planted his foot back on the canvas.
Lee was given the TKO win due to injury, and Roop was immediately taken to the hospital for emergency care. ROAD FC will provide an update on his status soon.
Last minute stand in Kuwabara Kiyoshi against ROAD FC Lightweight Champion Kwon A-Sol at Openweight ended in a lightning quick huge upset. Kuwabara swarmed Kwon with punches and knocked him face down in just 18 seconds. Kuwabara accidentally landed a blow to the back of the head as he followed Kwon down to finish him, and that was all the consummate smack-talker could comment on after the fight.
Original Korean MMA legends “Ryo” Choi Young and Yoon Dong-Sik showed off a first round of excitingly different styles, with Ryo throwing punches and hard kicks, and Yoon preferring to get to the clinch and work his knees. Ryo made his drive for the finish at the end of round one and Yoon felt it, so he came out with a big Superman punch in the second. Ryo staved off the worst, and landed a beautiful right as Yoon was coming in again, which floored the judoka.
Ryo, the DEEP Middleweight Champion, was wildly overjoyed at his victory. He said, “I want to look at winning the ROAD FC Championship belt.” When the camera flashed to ROAD FC Middleweight Champion Cha Jun-Hwan in the audience, Ryo displayed unusual humor. “Oh, I thought you were older!” he said, and laughed. Then, “I’m going to win one more, and I’m going to come for your belt.”
Bruno Miranda’s 5 point yellow card deduction due to missed weight meant nothing against Jung Doo-Jae. Miranda landed leg kick after kick, then walloped Jung with a right that wobbled him down. Jung tried to recover and shoot, but Miranda slapped on a quick standing guillotine and Jung tapped in just over a minute.
In the only female match on the card, Emi Fujino showed what a beast inside the cage she is. Hong Yoon-Ha made a very commendable start of her professional debut with crisp punches, but Fujino just brought things down and latched on a rear naked choke that put Hong to sleep in under a minute.
Alatengheili catapulted his stock with not just a decision win over hot prospect Choi Mu-Song, but a crowd-deafening thriller of one. Alateng started off with punches in bunches, but had to mix up his strategy when he felt Choi’s kicks. Alateng’s wrestling base came out, and landed throw after throw until he achieved a top mount position, and there he punched away to the bell.
