Sara McMann Talks About The Transition From Olympian To Mixed Martial Artist
By Scott Casber
Former Olympian Sara McMann is now training for her professional fight career and according to her manager Monty Cox it’s not easy to find fighters willing to take on the likes of McMann. I can understand why. A 16 year veteran of the MMA management and promotion Cox has seen it all. Rarely has he seen someone as prepared and dedicated to her craft as McMann.
The elite McMann was born September 24, 1980 and is the first American woman in history to receive a silver medal in Women’s wrestling doing so at the 2004 Summer Olympics games in Athens, Greece. She wrestled Women’s Freestyle at 63 kg or 138.75 lb. Sara was a Silver Medalist in 2003 World Championships and Bronze Medalist in 2005 & 2007 World Championships. Sara started wrestling at the age of 14 in Marion, North Carolina at McDowell High School.
You can see her fight May 28th, 2011 at the Hollywood Casino in Indiana. Below is her exclusive interview with the Official Radio Partner of PunchDrunkGamer, Takedown Wrestling Media’s Scott Casber.
