UFC on FX: Browne vs. Silva – Post Fight Press Conference Recap

Eight fighters joined UFC President Dana White at the UFC on FX post-fight press conference – Travis Browne, Antonio Silva, Jacob Volkmann, Michael Johnson, John Dodson, Justin Edwards, Jake Ellenberger, and Marcus LeVesseur.

Johnson took home Knockout of the Night for his come-from-behind stoppage of Danny Castillo. After weathering an early storm from Castillo, Johnson landed a left hook in the second round that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas.

Edwards was awarded Submission of the Night for his quick submission of veteran Josh Neer. Edwards blitzed Neer early, then locked in a guillotine choke that put “The Dentist” to sleep early in the first round.

Fight of the Night went to preliminary card fighters Diego Nunes and Bart Palaszewski. The featherweights engaged in a fast-paced battle in which both fighters were wobbled by punches. After three exciting rounds, Nunes received the nod on all three judges’ scorecards. All bonused fighters received $40,000 for their efforts.

Alvarez vs. Pitbull Headlines Bellator 76 in Windsor

As Bellator embarks on its explosive seventh and final season on MTV2, the promotion has finalized a stacked night of fights that include the highly anticipated lightweight showdown between Eddie Alvarez and Patricky Pitbull, as well as the Season 7 Featherweight Tournament and a host of International and Canadian talent looking to collect big wins inside the Bellator cage.

After holding the Bellator Lightweight Title for over two years, Alvarez was submitted by reigning Bellator Champion Michael Chandler is the consensus 2011 Fight Of The Year. Alvarez quickly rebounded, as the Top 10 lightweight collected one of the most fulfilling wins of his career after earning a long awaited win over submission ace Shinya Aoki at Bellator 66. With momentum on his side, Alvarez is primed for an explosive showdown at Bellator 76.

“After hearing Bellator wanted to put this fight together, I really don’t think they could have made a better matchup for the fans to enjoy,” Alvarez said. “Pitbull has proven to be a legitimate threat in the past and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

For Pitbull, the explosive Brazilian lightweight and former Bellator Lightweight Tournament Finalist is no stranger to the big finish, with knockout wins over MMA veterans Rob McCullough, Toby Imada and Kurt Pellegrino. After suffering a small fracture to his left arm at the hands of Lloyd Woodard, Pitbull is ready to re-enter the Bellator cage and collect the biggest victory of his already impressive career.

With competitors from Russia, Canada, Brazil and the United States, the Bellator Season 7 Featherweight Tournament features a worldwide collection of talent looking for their $100,000 Tournament Champion payday as well as a guaranteed title shot against reigning Bellator Featherweight Champion Pat Curran.

Anderson Silva Won’t Be Fighting Jon Jones Anytime Soon

Current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva finally addressed the rumors this week of a possible mega-fight against UFC light heavyweight champion.

“There’s always been a lot of talk about me moving up to 205, I know Dana has talked about it a lot, all the fans have talked a lot about me moving up and facing Jon Jones, but it’s something I’ve never wanted. I won’t be pretentious to say that I want to move up, especially because there’s other guys in that weight class on our team like Rafael Feijao (Cavalcante), (Antonio Rogerio) Minotoro Nogueira, there’s other guys that could potentially face Jon Jones in the future. I’m 37-years old and I feel like I need to be honest and to continue what I’ve built which is keep defending my belt at 185.”

The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale Announced

A heated rivalry between two of the sport’s hardest-hitting heavyweights will be settled on Saturday, Dec. 15 when the Ultimate Fighting Championship makes its long awaited return to The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin will meet The Ultimate Fighter season 10 winner Roy “Big Country” Nelson in the night’s five-round main event. The two serve as opposing coaches on this season’s edition of The Ultimate Fighter (Fridays, FX, 10 p.m. ET/PT) and will finally have the chance to trade leather this December. Plus, this season’s The Ultimate Fighter winner will be crowned when the Octagon makes its way back to The Joint.

“Roy Nelson has gotten under Shane Carwin’s skin all season and Shane’s ready to try to knock him out,” UFC president Dana White said. “I don’t expect this one to go the distance. Roy and Shane were civil to each other on ‘TUF,’ but they can’t stand each other and after having to spend six weeks together, Shane said he can’t wait to knock Roy out. These two are both known for having heavy hands. Chances are someone is getting knocked out. Best part is the coaches will fight on the TUF Finale Live on FX from Hard Rock Hotel here in Vegas.”
