New Xbox Console in 2013?

 

 

According to gaming website Develop, Microsoft and its industry partners are gearing towards a launch of the next Xbox gaming console in 2013. The plan is to unveil the new system at E3 2013, with the expected release date falling somewhere between late 2013 and early 2014. Apparently, developer Lionhead is prepping their “Fable Next” for release on the console.

 

 

 

 

 

SSX for Valentine’s Day

 

 

SSX, the arcade-style fantasy snowboarding franchise that made its first splash on the PlayStation 2, has a new installment set for release on February 14th. The formula is being tweaked to allow for free riding anywhere on the slopes, instead of confining racers to the track. The Valentine’s Day release will be for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Assassin’s Creed on the Big Screen

 

 

Sony Pictures has all but secured the film rights to Assassin’s Creed, the centuries-spanning sci-fi/fantasy action game from Ubisoft. Variety states that a multitude of movie studios, including Universal, eventually lost out on the bidding to Sony. Variety further states that this occurred, in part, because of Sony’s willingness to allow Ubisoft a greater degree of creative control over the project as it continues through development.

 

 

 

 

 

Sonic Generations 3DS Date

 

 

Coming on the heels of the announced November 1st launch date for console installments, the 3DS release date for Sonic Generations has been set for November 22nd. Not only does this release coincide with the 20th anniversary of the character, but Generations is also the first installment of the franchise to hit the 3DS.

New Titles in development for new PlayStation Console

 

 

Since last month’s announcement that Sony intends to release their PlayStation 4 in early 2013, the development status of gaming content has been the subject of intense speculation. Gaming website Develop broke the story that first-party developers have already begun preliminary work on titles for the upcoming console, though the specific developers at work have not yet been specified. Sony hasn’t yet commented on the story.

 

 

 

 

 

Pixar Games Coming to the Kinect

 

 

In an effort to broaden its library to appeal to younger audiences, Microsoft has announced a Pixar game being developed for the Kinect, code-named “Rush.” The collection of mini-games set in the Pixar universe will allow players to scan themselves into virtual settings and literally immerse themselves in the film’s world. The game will tentatively be released during Spring 2012.

The Hobbit Announced

 

 

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) has tentatively scheduled the launch of a game based on Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of The Hobbit for next year. The film will be split into two parts for theatrical release. The first, titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, will be the subject of WBIE’s game.

 

 

 

 

 

Vita in February 2012

 

 

The PlayStation Vita is set for release in North America, Europe, Latin America, The Middle East and Africa on February 22nd, 2012. In Japan, of course, the console/phone will drop two months earlier on December 17th.  The cheaper, Wi-Fi-only edition of the console costs $249, while the 3G model drops for $299 in North America.
