inXile entertainment Launches Their Second Kickstarter Campaign

inXile entertainment announced this week that it has kicked off its Kickstarter campaign for Torment: Tides of Numenera, which continues the thematic legacy of Planescape: Torment. After the successful funding of Wasteland 2 in April 2012, inXile entertainment has chosen to abandon the traditional publisher-developer business model and focus on crowd-sourcing for upcoming projects, beginning with Torment. “As we continue our progression toward launch of Wasteland 2, it is important to secure funding now in order to cover the costs of preproduction and to properly scope Torment: Tides of Numenera. This method of development helps to both create a better a RPG game and to keep the winning team together from project to project. The crowd has become our financing partner and we embrace the stronger bond that it creates between us” said Brian Fargo, CEO of inXile Entertainment.

*Update: They surpassed the $2 million funding plateau in about 48 hours.*

Mike Capps Leaves Epic for Good

In a post on Facebook Michael Capps has announced he is completely parting ways with Epic Games – “When we announced that I wanted to transition out of my leadership role at Epic, the plan was for a continued but less active role, service on the board of directors, and ideally, being that eccentric semi-retired guy who still comes to playtests and gold parties. I’m sad to say that plans have changed, and as of February 11th, I’m no longer affiliated with Epic Games. (I thought it best for Epic’s staff to hear it first, and the announcement was made today, so now I’m sharing this more widely.) I have many wonderful memories of my time at Epic, and I wish my friends there all the best in their future projects.”

When the city that created and defines him is threatened, Garrett must step from the shadows and uncover the truth before his world is torn apart forever. “We’re handling a precious gemstone with THIEF. Co-op to be a “Big Focus” of Diablo III 1.0.8 Patch

According to Diablo III designer Wyatt Cheng’s notes on the Diablo III Forums, Blizzard is looking to “improve co-op farming efficiency” in the upcoming version 1.0.8 patch for Diablo III, saying “Co-op play in general is a big focus of the 1.0.8 patch.” Cheng went on to elaborate more about the patch – “There’s also a number of hurdles to co-op play beyond raw efficiency, so we’ll be looking to alleviate/solve some of those hurdles too. The Identify All feature in 1.0.8 is an example of this. Sometimes the trip back to town to sort through a bag of gear is enough of a hurdle to make somebody feel playing co-op isn’t worth it. Nobody wants to be in the dungeon fighting monsters while your teammate is off in town identifying a full inventory.”
