Camelot Unchained Surpasses $2 Million Crowdfunding Goal
According to City State Entertainment its crowdfunding campaign for Camelot Unchained (a working title) has reached its target of $2 million. The TriRealm RvR-focused MMORPG will now receive $3 million in additional funding, including $2 million from studio co-founder and online game industry pioneer Mark Jacobs. The process of ramping up to full development is already under way. Here is what Jacobs had to say regarding the project – “The last 30 days have been an incredible journey, we believed there’s an audience for a highly focused game like ours, which has now been proven. What we didn’t expect was how our community would come together so quickly and avidly. Not only is our average pledge off the chart, our backers have been just as intensely supportive in other ways, from providing immense amounts of helpful feedback to translating information into four languages (German, French, Japanese and Korean), and more. Our entire team is grateful beyond words for the way they have inspired us with their fervent interest and amazing enthusiasm.”
SEGA and Gearbox Respond to Aliens: Colonial Marines Lawsuit
Gaming website Polygon has obtained an official statement from Damion Perrine’s attorney’s, who is suing SEGA and Gearbox for false advertising in relation to the botched sci-fi horror game Aliens: Colonial Marines. According to Perrine, there was noticeable differences between the advertising and the actual game. Edekson LLC, the law firm representing Perrine, issued the following statement to Polygon – “The gaming community had a strong reaction to the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines, we think the video game industry is no different than any other that deals with consumers: if companies like Sega and Gearbox promise their customers one thing but deliver something else, then they should be held accountable for that decision.”
Well in response, SEGA and Gearbox had the following to say to Kokaku this week when pressed for comment on the lawsuit – “SEGA cannot comment on specifics of ongoing litigation, but we are confident that the lawsuit is without merit and we will defend it vigorously.”
“Attempting to bring a class action lawsuit out of a demonstration is beyond meritless. We continue to support the game, and will defend the rights of entertainers to share their works-in-progress without fear of frivolous litigation.” – Gearbox representative.
