Blizzard’s Titan Suffers Setback
Following a rumor that development of Blizzard’s unannounced MMORPG codenamed Titan was back to the drawing board after a 70% reduction in the game’s development team, setting back the game’s release to at least 2016. Blizzard issued the following statement – “We’ve always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception. We’ve come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We’re using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes. Note that we haven’t announced any dates for the MMO”.

Unlike the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 Will Primarily be a Gaming Console
At the D11 conference this week, Sony Corporation president and CEO Kazuo “Kaz” Hirai stated that the PlayStation 4 is a video game console first and foremost. Here is a portion of what Hirai had to say – “The most important thing we need to do is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers. If we miss that part, I don’t think we get the initial establishment of the console. That formula has worked for us with all our consoles, including the PS3. Providing other non-game content is an area we will reveal and talk about in the coming months, but it’s first and foremost a video game console”.
Wargaming Announces Unified Premium Account System
This week, Wargaming announced its Unified Premium Account service, the next step in the company’s ambitious Wargaming.net service strategy to connect all of the company’s titles under one online ecosystem and community. The Unified Premium Account, which grants bonuses such as an increased experience and credit accrual rate, will be applied across all of Wargaming’s video game titles. Purchasing a premium account in World of Tanks will benefit in that account also being active for World of Warplanes, World of Warships, and any other future Wargaming title. The Unified Premium Account will officially launch during one of the stages of World of Warplanes open beta, where players will receive special tokens for free that can be used to purchase a Unified Premium Account. These tokens will serve as the equivalent of in-game gold during the open beta testing phase. Wargaming’s upcoming naval-combat MMO World of Warships will also feature the Unified Premium Account once that title goes into open beta.

Microsoft Has $1 billion to Invest in Exclusive Xbox One Titles
Official Xbox Magazine has reported in an interview with the game company’s Don Mattrick and Phil Spencer that Microsoft will invest roughly $1 billion for the development of exclusive titles for its newly revealed Xbox One console. Here is what they had to say – “We just ran through our [release slate] and counted the number of exclusives, and looked at the amount of money that we’re spending and the deals that we have, exclusive windows and [things to create differentiation]. I think, candidly, people are way, way under-indexing how hard we’re punching. There are great hits, there’s innovation, and there are world class creators plugged in,” Mattrick continued. “You know, I keep track of it all, and I hope everyone here does – we kind of look back at all the different years and at what we shipped, how many units have sold. There’s a lot of hyperbole about things, but I think we’re going to deliver”.
No New Engine for Naughty Dog on the PlayStation 4
After a rough transition when moving from PS2 to PS3, Naughty Dog has no intentions of recreating that nightmare when the PlayStation 4 arrives. “We scrapped everything at the beginning of Uncharted 1, and we had a perfectly good engine with the Jak & Daxter franchise,” The Last of Us game director Bruce Straley told Digital Spy. “We could have started with something there and then built off of it and only changed the pieces and parts as we needed, when we needed. And that really caused a lot of turmoil.” and according to Straley that will be the plan moving forward – “We have all these things that already work. Only when we hit a wall will we say, ‘When do we need to change something? When do we need to scale it,” he asked. “When does the gameplay, when does the story, when does the world that we need to create–when does this engine hit the wall?”

Dragon Age III Coming to Next-Gen Consoles?
IGN has discovered that Amazon Italy posted a product listing for Dragon Age III: Inquisition, suggesting that the BioWare role-playing game is indeed being developed for the Xbox One. It is assumed that the upcoming RPG will be available on other consoles but no other platforms are currently listed. Dragon Age III will run on the Frostbite 3 engine, the technology powering next-generation games like Battlefield 4 and Need for Speed: Rivals, as well as the next Mass Effect title. It was announced last September and will launch later this year.
Microsoft: Cloud Makes Xbox One Three Times More Powerful
In an interview with OXM, group program manager of Xbox incubation and prototyping, Jeff Henshaw, stated that the cloud service supporting Microsoft’s Xbox One will multiply the device’s local performance threefold. “We’re provisioning for developers for every physical Xbox One we build, we’re provisioning the CPU and storage equivalent of three Xbox One’s on the cloud,” he said. “We’re doing that flat out so that any game developer can assume that there’s roughly three times the resources immediately available to their game, so they can build bigger, persistent levels that are more inclusive for players. They can do that out of the gate”.
