Assassin’s Creed III – Thanksgiving Patch
Assassin’s Creed fans (there are many of you out there) will have one new reason to be thankful at the end of next week, when Ubisoft’s “Thanksgiving Patch” arrives to fix many of Assassin Creed III’s nascent technical problems. The Ubisoft forum post (which, to warn the uninitiated, contain massive spoilers) says the patch will primarily fix instances of missing audio, as well as bugs such as NPCs walking in aimless circles. There’s no telling yet if the same patch will also be made available to Wii U Assassin’s Creed III players, who will finally be getting their version of the game this Sunday.
Wii U Launch Details and Update
Though the North American release of the much-anticipated Wii U is finally happening this weekend, Nintendo loyalists will have to wait just a little bit longer to enjoy TVii, the console’s free video service. The application, which allows users of the Wii U access to TV shows, movies, and sports with a variety of interaction options, won’t be activated until sometime this December. When the service does hit, TVii viewers can look forward to being able to use the GamePad to run a live commentary on watched media through Miiverse, Facebook, and Twitter.

Deus Ex to the Big Screen?
Coming off recent announcements that superstars Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy have signed for big screen adaptations of the games Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell, respectively, it is no surprise that Deus Ex is the next franchise to step up to the plate for a quality induction into the world of cinema. Scott Derrickson, who recently released the horror film Sinister to solid acclaim, is being tapped for writer-director, with his Sinister co-writer C. Robert Cargill helping him to adapt the property. In a recent statement from Derrickson, the director said of the property: “Deus Ex is a phenomenal cyberpunk game with soul and intelligence…By combining amazing action and tension with big, philosophical ideas, Deus Ex is smart, ballsy, and will make one hell of a movie. Cargill and I can’t wait to bring it to the big screen.”
Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage DLC for Borderlands 2
Though no official details have been released regarding the DLC, developer Gearbox Software finally confirmed the title of their new Borderlands 2 expansion: Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage. Torgue, the name of one weapons manufacturer in the world of Borderlands 2, could be the indication of the man or organization which will be focused on in the upcoming DLC, but there’s no way to be sure. Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage will be the second of Borderlands 2’s four planned DLC packs, after Captain Scarlett and Her Captain’s Booty.

Hitman Absolution held back by Current Generation Consoles
In a recent bout of technical grousing that hopefully won’t reflect poorly on the soon-to-be-released game, Hitman: Absolution art director Roberto Marchesi told Trusted Reviews that his most recent work was compromised in an effort to fit current generation console specs. “The first games that will come out for the next generation of consoles will probably be just like an up-scaled version of everything,” said Marchesi. “All the textures will be ramped up twice, the resolution, everything… that’s really just a brute-force approach to making great-looking games, and, in a way, it’s much more of a challenge doing it with this current generation.” Hitman: Absolution is due in stores November 20th on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
All-Time 100 Video Games
Time Magazine’s relevance to a game-addicted generation of millennials has just gone up a tick with their release of the “All-Time 100 Video Games” list. The list encompasses forty years of evolution within the medium, categorizing its games by decade starting with the 70’s. So at one end of the spectrum is Space Invaders and The Oregon Trail, and at the other is Batman: Arkham City and Mass Effect 3. My, how far we’ve come.

Black Ops II Breaking Records
In a development that will surprise absolutely nobody, Call of Duty: Black Ops II has become the highest-selling game in the series to date (after Modern Warfare 3), by earning half a billion dollars in its first 24 hours of sale. Eric Hirschberg, the Activision Publishing CEO, made a recent statement that fully reflects that his series has become known as “the Coca-Cola of gaming franchises” by saying: “Call of Duty has become more than a product people buy, it’s a brand people buy into. And every November, we do more than just the launch of a game, we kick off an annual, unofficial but worldwide phenomenon called the Call of Duty season.”
PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale News
The Sony release of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, due November 20th for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, just received an order for two DLC characters early next year. A PlayStation blog post from game designer Seth Killian confirms that Kat, from Gravity Rush, and Emmett Graves, from Starhawk, will be playable characters in the fighting game. With Kat set to utilize gravity shifting powers and aerial attacks, and Emmett using his game’s signature weapons and Build and Battle-style air support, gamers will have their hands full by the time the gallery of characters fully expands in 2013.
