National Rifle Association Blames Video Games For Sandy Hook Massacre

In a PR move expectedly drowning in hypocrisy, National Rifle Association Vice President Wayne LaPierre has come down hard against violent films and video games, in response to the Sandy Hook shooting last week. “There exists in this country a callous, corrupt, and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people.” Citing games like Grand Theft Auto and Bulletstorm, as well as films like American Psycho and Natural Born Killers, LaPierre says that the media conglomerates responsible for these violent entertainments are locked in a “race to the bottom,” producing what amounts to “the filthiest form of pornography.” The A.V. Club’s Sean O’Neal put it best after quoting LaPierre himself: “’The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,’ said the man who has very realistic ideas about the problem of gun violence, while condemning dangerously stupid Hollywood fantasies.”

Following the bankruptcy of THQ this week, Ubisoft has emerged as one of the top candidates to buying THQ assets that may include characters, stories and environments from Saints Row, Red Faction, Metro, Homefront, and Company of Heroes.  According to MCV, Ubisoft has already held meetings with THQ to get the deal done, and is reportedly holding out for a “bargain buy” that will net the French publisher many of these assets in a single stroke.
