The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts
Terminal Reality’s upcoming Walking Dead shooter is being re-titled as “The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts.” First announced this July, Survival Instincts, which features the Walker-killing crew of Daryl and Merle Dixon, takes place in rural Georgia. The first-person shooter, in which the player can choose to dodge Walkers or take them head-on, is scheduled for release sometime in 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Super Mario 64 Hack
GameSpot is displaying an ingeniously designed hack for 1996’s classic Super Mario 64, in which cooperative multiplayer support is added. Currently only available for PC emulators of the title, the video for the mod depicts Mario and his doppleganger exploring the rope bridges and stairways of Princess Peach’s castle. The game, which has seen a considerable shelf life since its initial bow, hasn’t seen any multiplayer support since 2004’s Super Mario 64 DS.

Mass Effect: Paragon Lost Update
The animated prequel to BioWare’s Mass Effect 3, titled Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, has been given a nine-minute sneak peek and a Blu-Ray/DVD release of December 28th. In a casting choice that hopefully isn’t too reminiscent of his starring role in the abhorrent Wing Comander film, Freddie Prinze Jr. is leading the cast as alliance marine James Vega. In the anime prequel, which is being co-produced by Production I.G. (Kill Bill) and BioWare, Vega heads up a futuristic special forces squad sent to battle an alien force named The Collectors.
Discounted Wii U?
In a move that might prove a worthy investment in the long-term, Nintendo has decided to sell its Wii U (out on November 18th in North America) at below manufacturing costs, emulating a choice made late in the game for Nintendo, when they slashed the price of the 3DS 40%. As of now, a basic Wii U model will sell for $300, with $350 for a deluxe edition. The specific numbers citing what Nintendo has to gain and lose by this gamble are still unclear, but after taking in 2.5 billion yen this year, I wouldn’t bet against them.

King Leonidas in the new God of War
Finally paying tribute to the film to which it owes so much, the GameStop edition of the PlayStation 3-exclusive God of War: Ascension will include a voucher to download a King Leonidas character for the game’s multiplayer mode. Clad in the signature cape and wielding the spear that Gerard Butler’s sinewy muscles made so famous, the character is said to have special combat attributes that set him apart from the pack. GameStop orders of either the standard or collector’s edition will not only include the Leonidas voucher, but a 22 x 28 double-sided poster. The God of War prequel is due in stores on March 12th, 2013.
Assassin’s Creed III on the Wii U News
Assassin’s Creed III creative director Alex Hutchison is reassuring Wii U gamers that their version of the third-person actioner will be indistinguishable from its PC, PlayStation and Xbox 360 counterparts. “I know that sounds ridiculous, but it’s been a long time since I’ve shipped a game on more than three platforms where you could say it’s all the same. It’s not like some radically diminished version, so that’s exciting.” Though the gameplay will be accurately reflected on the Wii U, the Benedict Arnold missions will not be included. Assassin’s Creed III hits stores on October 30th (PC release November 20th).

Dunwall City Trials DLC for Dishonored
A DLC pack containing 10 challenge maps has been announced for Bethesda’s Dishonored. Titled Dunwall City Trials, the DLC will include unique trophies and achievements, and test players’ combat, stealth and mobility skills. Available in December, Dunwall City Trials will only set Dishonored fans back $5. It will be followed in 2013 with two additional, story-driven DLC packs.
GTA Vice City going Portable
Android and iOS gamers can finally experience Rockstar’s palm trees-and-pastel, Scarface knockoff vision of the 80’s, now that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is scheduled for release on the portable devices this fall. Featuring new HD graphics and unnamed enhancements that take advantage of iOS and Android platforms, Vice City is said to contain the full version of the game, imported intact from the PlayStation 2. More announcements about the classic’s rerelease are due soon.
