Changes Made to Parts of Hitman: Absolution

Following a bout of controversy over a particularly violent segment of their teaser for Hitman: Absolution, IO Interactive is making some changes to the game. The game, which launches in November, features a moment where Hitman protagonist Agent 47 guns down a group of armed-to-the-teeth nuns, and it is this moment that is being trimmed and refined as the game nears completion. According to Tore Blystad, the game’s director, “We learned from the trailer that we really needed to give these characters some context and some backstory. We’re working within the game–within that level–to build these characters up before you meet them. That way you know what you’re getting and you aren’t put off by them.”

Mirror’s Edge and Bad Company Updates

Two DICE properties with promising sequel potential – Mirror’s Edge and Bad Company – have been out of action since 2008 and 2010, respectively. In a recent interview with IGN, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach addressed their relative dormancy, explaining, “Mirror’s Edge is a game that we of course all love. It was a great game. It had some flaws, of course, like all games. But in general, it’s an IP that we love and of course we haven’t killed it, because it’s too good to kill.” As for Bad Company, “It’s very dear to me…[But] We have no information with where we are to a sequel to Bad Company.”

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Delayed

The time-travel based PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita game Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is being pushed to a February 2013 release, to maximize profits for an SCEA that is already flooded with potential hits this holiday season. A statement from a PlayStation representative posted recently on GameSpot claims: “With a robust and diverse catalog of first and third party content launching this holiday season–including Wonderbook: Book of Spells, PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale, Little Big Planet Karting, Assassins Creed III, Assassin’s Creed III Liberation, Madden 13, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified–we have decided to release Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in early 2013 to ensure gamers continue to have a variety of content to enjoy after the holidays and into the New Year.” This is the first entry in the Sly Cooper series developed by Sanzaru Games.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance coming February 2013

Konami has finally put a date to their long in development Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, slating it for US release in February 19th 2013, and UK release February 21st. The action-based third-person title from Platinum Games (Bayonetta) takes place several years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, and features a cybernetically-enhanced Raiden taking enemies to task with an array of melee combat. Gamers can play the Hideo Kojima-conceived title ahead of its release next year by buying the Zone of the Enders HD Collection, which comes packaged with the Revengeance demo.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate pushed to 2013

Konami is experiencing an unfortunate delay in their planned Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate release this fall. The Mercury Steam-developed 3DS game, which branches away from Dracula’s story to track the adventures of Trevor and Simon Belmont (as well as Dracula’s son, Alucard), takes place 25 years after the events of Lords of Shadow. It will serve as the middle chapter between that game and Lords of Shadow 2, which will soon be coming to the PC, Xbox 360 and PC. Mirror of Fate will be now coming to the 3DS in early 2013.

Big Picture Mode Beta Announced

The beta mode for Steam’s “Big Picture Mode,” first announced last year, will go to beta in early September. According to The Verge, this could lead to Steam-enabled hardware in the near future.

God of War: Ascension Beta News

God of War: Ascension, which is the first of the God of War games to even feature a multiplayer mode, will be offering a pre-release multiplayer beta later this year. The game will tell God of War hero Kratos’ origin story, and allow players to associate themselves with the Greek deity of their choice. Ascension director Todd Pappy described the user feedback for such gameplay modes as “critical,” which explains why the multiplayer beta will be available globally, and first to PlayStation Plus members.
